OUR MINES.
NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.
Crushing will be started next week with ten head of stampers at the Queen of Beauty battery, making a total of 42 stampers employed on this company's dirt. Colors of gold were seen yesterday in breaking down the No. 1 reef in the eastern drive at No. 4 level, inside the break. The quartz is from 10 to 18 inches wide.
MARINER.
The crushing from the cross-leader at No. 4 level, and also of the dirt from the winze sunk on it from No. 3 level, was finished to-day, the 25 loads put through yielding 21ozs 14dwts of melted, gold. This return is satisfactory, as the manager considers it would pay expenses as soon as the block is well in hand, while there is the chance of getting better dirt as the stopes ascend, the reef showing most gold in the winze at a depth of about 40 feet.
LONDON.
Two trial lots, in all 11 loads of quartz, have been put through for the re earn of 4ozs. gold, or an average of nearly Bdwts. per load. Six loads were put through from the eastern drive on No. 2 reef at No. 4 level, and fire loads from .the. east* crn drive on the same lead at No. 3 level. Both parcels shaped about the same. The reef at No. 4 level averages about 9 inches in width, and shows colors of gold each time it is broken. The manager intends to put all the quartz from here through the mill, as the expenses of carting and crushing.being only 4 dwts per load, the remainder of the yield will reduce the cost of driving.
REUBEN PARR.
Seven tenders were received for extending the low level 100 ft. the prices ranging from 303 to 17s, at which the latter figure W. Stevens and party's tender was accepted. They start work on Monday morning. The manager is not sure that the formation in hand is the reef, but as the country is now more /favourable, if he is on the right track the lode will no doubt improve as opened out upon.
KOOKY POINT.
It has been decided to take out a crushing from the reef last intersected by the crosscut at the General Chute level, and which has been designated No. 2. The proprietors have received an offer from a party of men to take a tribute on the reef at 15 per cent., so though no gold has yet been seen the lode is to be tried. The wages men will start opening out on Monday next. Should the crushing yield satisfactorily, the shareholders will be able to open up a large block of ground.
NEW EUREKA (OTUNUI).
The manager had an interim retorting to-day, he being obliged to adopt this course on account of having no safe at the battery. 20 tons of quartz, taken indiscriminately from the paddock, had been put through up to yesterday afternoon, the amalgam from which gave the very satisfactory return of 31ozs 15dwts gold. The dirt is thus shaping for fully 2ozs per ton, as the boxes, which always catch some gold, have not been cleaned out, and there are still a portion of the blanketings on hand. It will also be remembered that the company have already obtained over 1200z3 gold from specimens bagged while taking oufc the dirt being crushed.
