Educational statistics for the quarter show that 160 schools are in operation, with an average attendance of 16,423. The attendance is slowly increasing throughout the district, notwithstanding a falling off of 500 in the city schools owing to illness. ' . , l^ie 21- Hours' "Walk. The 24 hours' walking match—Scott v. Edwards bega^ last night at 10 o'clock. The Eev. C. J. Byng was present and made a few remarks. The first mile was done in 10 minutes 14 seconds, Scott being two laps behind ; there are 22 laps to the mile. There was an attendance of 400 or 50C0 people. • Later. At. four o'clock this morning Edwards had walked 31 miles 13 laps and Scott 31 miles. At 130 p.m., Scott's record was 73 miles 6 laps, and Edwards' 70 miles 6 laps. Scott is regarded as certain to come off the winner._ _^
