OUR MINES.
NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.
The foundation being all ready, the new engine was this morning removed from Price Bros 1 yard to the mine, and will be placed in position without delay. The men employed widening the upper portion of the .shaft have made good progress, and it is now timbered to within 15ft. of the surface. The centres and guides have yefc to be put in, but this will not take long, as it is straightforward work.
DEEP LEVEL CROSS.
Th? winze on the boundary at No. 5 level is still in progress, and is now 35ft. deep. The leader was broken down yesterday, and showed a few colors of gold. It maintains its size, being about 8 inches thick, and is a nice compact lode. The footwall leader in the fifth stope is looking well, and a few pounds of picked stone come to hand each breaking.
LONDON,
The winz;e on No. 1 reef at No. 3 level is down SQit., end the country, though a little tighter for the past few feet, is still favovable for gold, colors of the precious metal being seen, in the stringers on the Langingwall of the main reef, which is not being broken down. The contractors for the eastern drive at No. 4 level are in 30ft., but have not yet taken down the reef. .
DARWIN".
The manager reports that the main shaft has been sunk twenty-tYFO feet in the past fortnight, making the total depth XH fee| from the brace; the country sunk through has been a tighter class of sandatone than previously, and therefore the" progress has been slower. It is interlaced with black mineral veins, and of a good description for carrying gold bearing lodes. The water has diminished, end as the dry season adrances the manager expects, ta have always less. The depth— ?i*VA, 150 feet—at which it has beaa decided to open out* will not b,e lo.ng now in being reachec, although shaft will require to be suqk ten fee^' deeper for a well hale. $a <JriYing for.the parallel ladei, the lodes intersected in the shaft, being at right angles and dipping seaward, will be firal reached, ; - .
