London, September 21. Professor Nordenskvold, a Swedish ex* plorer in the Arctic regions, who recently returned from an expedition in Greenland, reports that the interior of that country consists of an ice desert to an enormous extent, the existence of which was pre* viously unknown. ,
The Bank of England announces that the following New Zealand loans will be forthwith converted into 4 per cent, inbribed stock, yig :—4§ per cent 5.301§79-
1904 loan, £6,000.000; 5 per cent. 5.80 1881-IQO6 loan, £1,250,000; and 5 per floating loans, amounting to £1,832,000; making a total of £9,082,000 to be con. rerteel. Vienna, Sept. 21. The latest reports from Croatia state that the province is still in a disturbed state. Serious anti-Magyiar disturbances have taken place at Krentz, a town near Agram. The troops were called out to i quell the outbreak, and fired upon the rioters, ten of whom were killed and a number seriously injured.
Bebiin, Sept. 21
A review of a krge body of the Imperial troops was held to day at Homburg, near Frankfort, Maine, before the Emperor William. The spectacle, which was a grand one, was witnessed by King Alfonso, of Spain, who is on a visit to the Emperor, and the English Princes (sic.) now in Germany.

Sir Anthony Musgrave, the Gorernor of Queensland, leaves by the steamer Sorata, which sails for Melbourne today.
Admiral Courbet has been appointed Commander-in-chief of French operations mi Tonquin. The Bake of Cambridge has approved of the following military appointments made in the Victorian land forces :— Major Disney, of the Royal Artillery, as Commandant; Captain Fellowes, of Ist Battalion of East Surrey Regiment, as Staff Officer of Infantry; and Major Brownrigg, of Eifle Brigade, as Brigade Major and head of the School of Instruction.
The four torpedo boats ordered by the New Zealand Government have been completed and launched. A trial of them has taken place at Greenwich, with results highly successful, over 17 knots an hour having been run. At the luncheon which followed the trial there was a large and fashionable company.
