NAUTICAL COMPANIONS.

A most remarkable seafaring coincidence recently occurred at Newcastle, in the almost simultaneous arrival of the barques Otago and Christine, from Melbourne, after eight months' tour of,the globe. They both left originally for St. "Vincent's Gulf together, and thence within a few hours of each other for Algoa Bay, South Africa. In January last the Christine left Port -Piri. and the Otago Port Agusta; both were in Algoa Bay together, and left there in compaay for Mauritius, arriving at their destination within three days of each other. They were chartered there by the same agents, Blyth, Brothers, and Co., and once more quitted the same bay on the same day, bound for the same port. They kept in companynearly the whole way, bound each for Melbourne, and passed Cape Otway on the same day, arriving at Melbourne almost together, the Christine having a day to the good. Business concluded there they once more quitted Port Philip Reads at the same hour, and arrived at Newcastle within an hour and a half of each other, the Christine being the first to put in an appearance round Nobby's. Both vessels were so close in company that on several occasions just prior to striking the trades, boats were lowered and their masters pulled aboard, and mutually entertained one another at lunch in mid-ocean. A voyage almost round the globe under such circumstances has been seldom if ever recorded.
