NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.

The No 2 reef was again broken down in the eighth stope above No. 5 level last night, and a hundredweight of specimens and picked stone were bagged from a point about 25ft seaward of the break. This stope has not yet passed the gold left showing in the roof of the seventh stope. No gold has yet been seen in the winze below No. 5 level, but the reef is at present rather pinched up. • THAMES GOLDEN CROWN. ( A late report from the manager says :' Contractors at 170 ft level will finish their contract during this present week. The last crushing (about 5 tons) showed no improvement; about same average, 6 .to 7dwts. The point is reached where the 3lide was expected, but it did not come to hand. There is still a distance of 20 feet before the drive would reach the northern boundary of the Waiotahi G.M.Co.; but as the quartz is showing so little improvement, and also as the contractors are not willing to go on at the same price, I would recommend that the work be discontinued for the present, and the samp number of hands employed at the intermediate level to open up the small leader lately cot at 100 feet level, and which, I think, will be more profitable work. Leader in cross cut 100 feet level: Still a small supply of good crushing dirt coming to hand, and a few picked sstone. Shaft, leader: This is still small, but showing gold freely as the leader is taken down. The battery has been running full time during past week—ls head for Prince Imperial, and 5 head for company. Amalgam on hand one week for 5 head, 860z5., and about 351bs. picked stone. BKIGHT SMILE. , The leader in both the eastern and western drives is looking well, showing gold each breaking down. From the stopes also payable dirt is coming to hand, and a few picked stone are bagged occasionally, though bo hauls of specimens have been obtained recently. ORIENTAL AMALGAMATED. The contractors having the 50ft let a week or two ago, without intersecting the reef expected, the directors have let another 50ft to the same party. A favorable class of sandstone has been met with so far. GOLD RETURNS. Moanataibi.—G. White and party, who are tributing at the 80ft level in the Morning Star section, have banked 20ozs 14dwtg from 2 loads quartz.-—Garvey and party have banked 2ozs 131wts gold.
