We are sorry to hear that our old townsman, Mr William Wilson, bag suffered a painful berearement at To Aroha. Yesterday while his eldest eon, aged about 13 years, was watering a horse in the Waihou river he got thrown therefrom,» and was immediately carried away by the current and drowned. The only business done at the Police Court this morning was to fine an inebriate 5s or imprisonment for 24 hours. E. F, Tizard, Esq., J.P., occupied the Bench. The Wellington correspondent of the Auckland Herald says :—The opinion of the best authorities is clearly against Mr Hamlin's action, in refusing to allow Sir G. Grey to give notice of motion on Baturday. It is held that Sir G. Grey was distinctly in tire right, as the House had abated none of it g powers or functions until the message was received from the Boyal Commissionersj summoning the members to attend the Legislative Council for the prorogation. It is ex. pected Sir G. Grey will make unlimited capital out of his " mouth beiog closed." While Frederick Billiogs, the machine boy at the Stab Office, was engaged in bis work this afternoon, he had the misfortune to break one of the fingers of his right hand. The accident was promptly attended to by DrDuxtable. The election for a Councillor to represent the Central Ward in the Borough Cjuncil for the ensuing term takes place to-morrow. Tbndbhs were opened to-day for extending the crosscut at No. 8 level 100 feet, and the northward drive at No. 10 level 50 feet, in the Queen of Beauty mine. For the former work the tender of Wilton and party, at 26s 6d per foot, was accepted, and for the latter that of E McMinitnuan and party, at 19s 5d per foot. Work in both places is to be commenced without delay. The footballers were entertained at a public dinner in Auckland. The Mayor presided. 1 A boy, aged between 3 and 4 years, was killed in King street, at the St. David street crossing, Dunedin, at about a quarter to four o'clock yesterday afternoon; his name is Bradley. Deceased was running across the road from a dray and did not see the steam motor approaching, and before the driver of the latter could pull np, the boy was knocked down and killed instantaneously. Oh the Zealandia arriving yesterday in Auckland, the detectives arrested one Cornelius Biordanby mistake for Patrick Biordan, for whom a warrant from Melbourne was out for fraudulent bankruptcy. He was discharged at the Poiiee Court, Supt. Thomson stating he believed the prisoners'a brother who had gone to America was the defaulter. Patrick Riordau's wife was a passenger also by the steamer. They left by the Zealandia for San Francisco.
Thb " Loch Ken " entering the harbor was a circumstance ; her grounding in the mud was provident. She couldn't sail overland so she stopped; and why ? She saw Charlie McLiver's window in the distance, and some of the officers and sailors wanted to take for a home voyage his tobacco, cigars, and other accessories to a pleasant trip.—[A.DVT.]
