OUR MINES.
. NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL. The No._ 2 reef was broken down this morning in the ninth stope west above No. 5 level, over the show left in the back of the eighth. Three hundredweight of specimens were bagged, and a second breaking this afternoon produced 2cwt more, a good show being left in the back, and face of the stope. The stone ia of good quality. The lead in the eighth stope, which is just through the break was also taken down this morning, and JDlbs of specimens were secured, dabs of gold also being freely seen through the general dirt. DEEP LEVEL CROSS. A portion of the hangingwall branch of No. 2 reef in the winze just commenced at No. 5 level was broken down to-day, and a little gold was seen in it. The chamber for the winze to, be sunk on the footwall branch:of the crossreef has been cut out, and the men to-day started sinking. Some specimens were got at this point when the level was driven, THAMES GOLDEN CROWN. The contractors for the western drive at the 570 ft level have driven 188 feet since starting, and have now nearly completed' their contract. There is no sign of the slide yet, but it should be met with in a few feet, unless it dips much flatter than it did between the battery and 100 ft levels. A trial parcel from the reef .on the seaward side of the break, and. which crossed it a few days ago is now going, through the mill, and is shaping fo* i» payable return. Very little o,f the loader opened out upon from the 100 ft chamber has been broken down this week, the men being engaged timbering up the drive ready for sloping, and in stripping the leader. * KURANUI HILL, The winze on the All Nations leader at the tunnel level is now down 35ft, and the leader has shown gold freely the'whole distance. The manager intends to start, on Monday and open out both ways from the bottom of the winze. A small block will then be taken out on each side so as
to prove what the ground is worth before opening it up at the 80ft level. A start will be made to-morrow to open out on the Junction No. 1 reef from the bottom of the winze sunk at the tunnel level underneath the block from which the manager took 12000z9 gold some time ago. The dirt from this winze crushed 15dwts per load, but better dirt may be found by driving. NEW COLUMBIA. v The rise from the Ruby tunnel is now up 35ft, and another 25ft should connect with the intermediate level. So far the reef has been merely a clay formation, and the rise is quite dry, but quartz should be struck soon,, when the water ia the upper workings will probably drain off. The manager intends to put in an .intermediate level eastward on the reef, and work out the block above from thip, as it will be the cheapest way to work at present, though the Ruby tunnel could be extended-and work started from ifc if payable ground continues below the intermediate level. GOLD RETUBNS. Magnolia.--Mose and party hare banked loz 12dwts gold. Moanataibi.—Guthrie and party, who are tributing on the surface portion of Heldt's section, have obtained 68ozs gold from 10 loads general dirt and 601bs picked stone.
