OUR MINES.
QUEEN OF BEAUTY. The foutfttrstope north of the slide at No. 10 level has broken through to the
winze from No. 9, and the manager has resumed stoping. The leader shows a great improvement in all the stopes, averaging 18 inches in width, and showing dabs of gold in the second, thir.d» and fourth stopes, while in th.? leading one a much better cla^s of mineral is coming in. The m,an,ager. intends to recommend the directors to push on the northward drive here, as the gold appears to be dipping hill ward. Seaward of the shaft a better class of country is faaod in the drive, and the reef hag opened out to three feet in width. A trial parcel from here is ready for treatment. In the leading stope the reef is three feet wide, and well mineralised. In taking down the reef in the winze, the quartz is fully fiv§ faei wide: At No. 8 level, Coolly and; party having given iaeir tribute, the manage? hss stopped work on Bice a leader, and started the men to siak a winze on the tributes' leader at tb,»point where they intersected it. It is small here, but was weirth 4ozs per load. Should, good dirt continue downwards, either N;o. 9 or No. 10i level ©oiald be driven in and the block opened up ready for stoping. A stay* has also been made at No. 8 io drive on the Queen of the May reef to the junction of the tributers' lead,.which should be to hand in about 25 feet. The reef at present is a foot | wide, and is looking well. The tea new
berdana at the battery are finished, with the exception of the drags, and they should be ready for use next week.
DARWIN". A late report from the manager says :— Since my last, I have sunk the main shaft .. 40 feet, making the total 85 feet from the brace. The last 20 feet sunk has been through a really Bplendid country—white blocky sandstone—interlaced with black miueral veins and flinties, in, which the leader or reef when reached I belive will be found gold bearing. We are not deep enough yet for the Shamrock reef, which it is possible may be cut in the shaft; if not, it will not be far off, and the country looks well for getting gold in it; in fact it is likely the specimens got in cutting down the public road were from the outcrop of this lode. GOLD [RETURNS. Moanataibi.—Sarieh and party have banked 6ozs 3dwts gold.
