LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
Wellington, Yesterday.
The Premier introduced a bill to enable the Land Board to inquire into cases of dummyism, which, waa passed through all its stages. . The Companies Act Amendment Bill was passed. The following bills, having passed all previous stages, were read a third time: — Justices of the Peace Bill, Special Powers and Contract Bill, South Island Native Reserves Bill, and the Harbours Act Amendment Bill.

The second reading of the Gore-Kelso Railway Authorisation Bill was-moved by the Premier, and was opposed by Messrs Pollen, Richmond, Holmes, and Wilson, and was supported by Mr Menzies.—On a division the bill was thrown out by 14 to 9.
The Wanganui Bridge Bill was read a third time and passed. The Council withdrew its amendments on the Road Boards Act Amendment Bill.
The Premier laid on the table a bill for the re construction of the Legislative Council, and at some length detailed the nature of its proposals, and the Council adjourned till 11 a.m. today.
