- The boys of the Waio-Karaka and Kauae* ranga schools engaged in a football contest on Saturday. The game resnlted in a draw, neither side succeeding in making a score.
Dubing the debate on the Otago Harbor Bill in the House on Saturday night, the Chesterfield of the Assembly , v Mr F.sh, professed bia disgust and abhorrence at the obstructive course pursued by his new political opponent, Mr Green, and he appealed to his Maker in^strong terms that Mr Green had .unjustly slandered Mr Macaodrew. He (Green) was a minister of the Gospel, a follower of Christ, yet he had stooped to slander a fellow creature in broad daylight. He felt for,Mr Macandrewalmost as he would have done for bis father, and all this was the result of tb^t wretched thing slander upon hearsay.—Mr Daniel had flat under Mr Green and heard him delivering some stirring gospel sermons, and was edified by them, as be believed, but what Mr Green had- said that night had caused him to lose all faith in him. Ml- Green made a personal explanation, during which he protested that he said nothing derogatory to Mr Macandrew, amidst wbich he was interrupted with ories of •' No, no."— Mr Daniel said after the explanation by Mr Green it was time they all took a back seat.

' Letters have been received from Melbourne and Sydney expressing the inability of the Yacht Clubs at those places to send representative yachts to take part in tbe proposed Intercolonial race in Auckland, for which it was proposed to offer a prize of £250. An attempt will probably bo made now to send an Auckland yacht to Australia.
ON Friday night, about 8 o'clock, at Nelson, the tide suddenly rose to considerably above high water mark, tbe time for high water not being until after 9 o'clock. It fell again ten inches, after which it commenced to flow in again as ÜBual.
The Cygaet has arrived at Auckland from Samoa and Apia, and reports a hurricane in the Islands, and consequent loss of the whaling barque Especulador, belonging to Thomas Henderson, junr. No lives were lost. The insurances are not known. A number of other vessels were wrecked at the same time.
