TE AROHA V. THAMES.
A team left for Te Aroha by the s.s. Despatch on Saturday morning to do battle with the Te Aroha kickists. It was thought that our men would come back crowned with the laurels of victory, bnt their opponents proved to, be of sterner metal than was anticipated. The weight of the Te Aroha men proved too much for the Thames players in the scrimmages, and this should have been counteracted by our men playing the loose game and heeling out, but they seem to have omitted this. The Te Aroha team was led by Capt. Whitaker, and the Thames players by Capt. Steward. The game resulted in a draw, neither side scoring. In the evening the contestants sat down to a dinner at Quinlan's Hotel, and a pleasant time was put in tinder the presidency of Mr H. Whitaker. The local team returned to the Thames Yesterday afternoon. A visit is expected from the Te Aroha Club before the end of the season.
