Railway Eagiae Fireman Shot

As the ten o'clock goods, train from Clinton to Inrercargill was nearing Wai* tana last night, John Henderson the fireman was shot dead, by a man unknown, from the bank alongside the. line; the train was pot back ,to Clintbn by the • brakesmaaand driter on the'engine at the time. Henderson's wife and family reside at Inverc-rgill. There is no clue to the perpetrator of the deed. Latsr. There is no fresh information re the murder to hand. The guard, Duncan, says he saw two flashes, and immediately after the second one the deceased threw up his arms, exclaiming "Oh Peter!—to Peter Dunn the driver of the engine—and expired. Those on the train became frightened, and extinguished all the lights, and backed the train to Clinton. -Superintendent Weldon and two detectires proceeded to Clinton this morning.
