NEW PEINCE IMPERIAL.
Rich. Haul of Specimens.
The No. 2 reef in the eighth stope west above No. 5 level was again taken down to-day, and the rich haul of 6cwfc. of specimens was bagged, a good show being still left in the face and back of the stope. About 5 or 6 feet in length of the reef was broken down, this portion including the remainder of the show left in the back of the seventh stope. The fact that good gold is showing in the face and back is very encouraging, and shows that the ran is carrying upwards. —The manager reported, yesterday morning as follows:—"Work is proceeding as usual in the mine. The fifth stope on Wo. 2 lead above No. 5 level will be home to the boundary during this week. No specimens have been obtained from this stope during the past ,week. The lead in the sixth, stope was broken down on Monday last, and lcwt of good specimens were obtained. This stope is now advanced 30 feet past the break. The lead continues to looJc exceedingly well, and 501bs of specimens have come to hand since last Monday's breaking down. The seventh stope produces a large amount of crushing dirt. The face is fully 7 feet wide in order to carry the various stringers along with us, all of which show gold freely. In the eighth stope, 3 feet of the lead, which was stripped, was broken down on Saturday, and 4cwt of specimens were obtained, some of which were exceedingly rich. There is a splendid show of gold in the face, and gold is still showing at the back of the stope. The other 5 or 6ft of the run is now being stripped and should produce another haul of specimens.'. There is no change to report in the eastern stopes. I have started two men to extend the crosscut north at No. 5 level to ascertain if there is any of the hangingwall portion of No 2 lead left behind, and also to further prospect the country. The footwall portion of No. 1 reef, in the drive at No. 4 level, has considerably improved during the past week, gold being seen more freely in breaking down. There is nothing fresh to report from the stopes. 386 loads of quartz have been reduced at the batteries last week for the yield of 7500zs amalgam, making the total amount on hand 1410ozs. As the two specimen boxes (holding a ton) are now full a commencement was made to reduce them with the single stamper this morning.—G-.S. Clack." .
'.QUEEN OF BEAUTY. Gold is still seen in breaking the reef in both the second and third 3topes north ward of the slide, and a better class of mineral is seen in the quartz as the leading stope advances- The rise seaward of the shaft to meet the winze'is being put upon the wall of the reef, and should break through next week, when stoping will be started and work resumed in the drive. THAMES GOLDEN CROWtf. Driving westward was commenced yesterday at the IOOFt level on a number of leaders lying close together, which were passsd through when the crosscut to the Cure section was put in some time ago. A few pounds of picked stone were obtained here when the manager was fossicking, and a few more came to hand today. Three shifts of men are employed in the drive, and as soon as it has been advanced a short distance, JV{r D,ualop intends to start work eastward also. Work on Herival's leader is ac present confined to the stopes, but the dirt fronrhere has not shaped so well lately. At the 170 ft level driving seaward on the junction of Ncs. 1 and « 2 battery level reefs is in progress, and another 30ft. ■ should take the face to the slide. The reef is from 2 to 3ft. wide, and a color of gold was seen in it this morning, the first observed since driving was started. Ten head of stamps are running on company's dirt, 5 being on quartz from Herival's leader, and 5 on some trial parcels. - i
SEYMOUR
The crosscut for the Lucknow reef is now in 57 feet from the drive on the reef cut in tbe chamber. On Saturday morning a body of quartz was struck in the left hand bottom corner of the drive, and as it was at that point a well defined lode 15 inches in width, and carrying splendid minerals for gold, the manager thought it was the reef he is driving for. Subsequently, however, when it had been cut through for the whole width of the drive, it was found to pinch into a small stringer southward, and also to be striking more to the eastward than the Lucknow reef. Those facts prove that it cannot be identical with the last mentioned lode, but is probably either a large flinty or else a feeder. The crosscut will be pushed ahead again, and from measurement the manager considers the reef should be to hand in another 20ft of driving. No/work is being done southward on the reef cut in the chamber, but the manager has opened out northward, and a portion of it is now showing in the crosscut. No gold has been seen yet, but the quartz looks favorable. The leader cut in the crosscut should junction with this reef some distance ahead, as if is striking towards it.

The manager at present has all the men engaged cleaning out the low level, and putting down new rails, &c. The drive is now clear for fully 200 ft., and by the end of, this week he expects to have it open to the face. The Gibraltar reef has been cut here, and the manager's object is to drive on ie till under where Lowe and party, of the Robin Hood claim, got good dirt at and above a level 80ft. higher than the one being cleaned out. , The distance to drive is not more than 60ft:. and payable quartz should be met with, as the run of gold wss never followed down. A trial crushing has been taken from a surface leader, in breaking which gold was seen, and is now ready for crushing. A party of tributers are working on the Gibraltar reef at the surface.
