OUR MINES.

NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL

A start was made to-day to put the specimens through the single stamper at the battery. About 4 cwt were treated, and, as usual, shaped well. No breaking down look place to-day in the eighth stope.

BRIGHT SMILE.

Crushing was commenced this morning at the Euranui Hill battery, and as 20 head of stamps are employed, the dirt will probably be all through in time for cleaning up to take place early next week.

KURANUI HILL,

The battery started this morning with the full force, but the company is only using 10 head at present, the remainder being employed on the tributers and Bright Smile quartz. In the mine there is nothing fresh of importance to report. The drive on the No. 9 reef from the Belfast tunnel is being pushed ahead, and another 30ft should take the face to the junction with Cook's leader.

MARINES.

The crossleader in the winze being sunk from No. 3 level was again broken down to-day, and good dabs of gold were seen. The leader is 9 inches wide, and in the bottom of the winze a lot of good mineral is found in the stone.

CALEDONIAN.

The winze on the Ked Queen crossleader is now down 70ft., and good payable quartz is coming to hand, the leader being 18inches wide. As the winze will be down to No. 2 level long before the crosscut reaches it, the manager has reduced the number of hands sinking it. No. 2 level has been repaired, and six men are pushing on with the crosscut, which was started at a point about 100 ft. on the shaft side of the Otago Flat winze. As soon as the work is fairly UDder way tenders will be called for continuing it, the distance to drive being 300 ft. A small leader carrying excellent mineral was cut last week, and the manager considers it to be worth further prospecting. The stopes above No. 1 level are looking about the same as usual, and the dirt being crushed at the Herald mill is shaping for a payable return.

MOANATAIRI.

The manager reported on Saturday as follows:—"No. 9, 132 ft level: Operas tions have been confined to footwall portion of the reef (and a gold-bearing leader which junctions with it) during the week, but neither has proved as productive as in the previous week. A few pounds of picked stone, however, have been obtained since my last, and the quartz maintains its usual promising characteristics for gold, as well as the country.—Tunnel level: A wiDze is being sunk on No. 2 footwall lead, from which a little picked stone has been secured. The winze is about 12ft below tunnel level. A few pounds of picked stone have come to hand from the Nonpareil section during the week. Moyle and party crushed 15 tons, which gave 23ozs 2dwts melted gold. It came from surface portion of Eureka sec tion. . Kneebone and party crushed 5 tons for 17ozs 6dwts melted gold. This came from Heldt's section, above 132 ft. level.—* J. G. Vivian."
