An interim retorting took place to-day for the result of 1420zs lOdwts gold. This is the return from a month's work, and is payable. The quantity of general dirt crushed was about 150 tons from all parti of the mine. The workings in the Non« pareil, Heldt's, and on the No. "2 reef at the 80ft. level continue to produce remunerative quartz. / DART: The No. 1 reef and hangingvrall leader in the eastern drive at Fo. 3 lerel were broken down- yesterday. No gold wat seen in the quartz, which, however, looks - well, and carries good minerals. The hangini»wall leader is striking towards the main reef, and should junction with it before long. The crosscut for No. 2 reef is now in about 103ft,.and as the country is . favorable for progress, the reef should be in hand in four weeks. The crossconrse met with on Wednesday is still giving out a considerable stream of water, and ia draining the dam at No. 2 level, the water' there having receded about 18ft in four days. NEW MANUKA.IT. All the mepi ' employed are engaged "- upon No. 5 reef at the 360 feet level. Eastward of the crosscut a rise has been put up 20ft, and the. manager to-day found a small stone carrying good gold in a stringer branching off the. main reef. This is the first gold seen in the No. 5 reef since that company started work on it. In the western drive the main lode is split up. and looks poor, but a nicelooking leader three inches in width, and well mineralised, has been found striking oil' from the footwall.
