New Zealand Rifle Association.

Wellington, Yesterday. A deputation of the Council of the New Zealand Rifle Association waited on the Hon. Mr Bryce this evening with respect to Government aid for the Association for the ensuing year. The deputation was headed .by Sir G. S. Whiimore, who pointed oat that by a liberal grant from the Government the Association had been - able to offer an attractive prize lisfc The prize money at the last meeting amounted to nearly £1500 ; the attendance 300, ol whom 100 went from the North Island. At the Nelson meeting in March, 1882 the prize money was only £500, and the , attendance somewhere about 110. Sir George pointed out that by making the meetings peripatetic the interest evinced by citizens in the different towns visited by the Association would naturally tend to increase its usefulness. The Hon. Mr Bryce replied that he had the interests of the Association at heart, and he would have communicated with the Association "• on the subject of a grant if the present deputation bad not waited on him. He promised to lay the matter before the Cabinet with a view to obtaining assist ance daring the present session. Mr Bryce wished the Association every sue cess. The Council of the Association propose' to hold" the next meeting at ; Auckland. .
