DEEP LEVEL CROSS.

The second stope on the footwall leader, which has now been advanced 14ft fronr the Imperial boundary, yielded 401bs more specimens to-day, making the* total quantity of stone obtained during the month 2401b5. The leader is somewhat split up, the footwall branch carrying the; gold, but it yields over a foot of crushing . dirt. The water was out of the Big Pump shaft this morning, and at noon the men resumed work in the south crosscut ait the bottom level, '..... SEYMOIJR. , A slight mishap occurred on Sunday, resulting in the breaking of the clutch gear on the winding shaft. A new casting is being made, and both cages will again be available in a day or two. Work in the mine is being pushed ahead as usual. The leader cut in the chamber has been drited on 30 feet southward, but is still disturbed by the slide which crossed it. Mure solid country is now appearing in the face, so the leader should in a few feet be better defined. The manager now finds that the Lucknow reef is situated on the footwall of the main slide, and is standing almost upright, so the leader in hand cannot be identical with it. He has therefore let a contract, at 10s per foot, to put in a crosscut 50 feet eastward, starting from the cud of the preseut drive. The country is good for progress, and the leader should be in hand before long. The contractors will' probably start work on Thursday. . ORIENTAL AMALGAMATED. The retorting of the amalgam from the parcel of 481bs. of specimens treated at the Alburnia battery yesterday gave the very encouraging result of 430z3. 13dwts. gold. This speaks well for the character of the reef in hand, and as equally good results have been, obtained from the Eureka ground, we have no doubt but that the field will come to the fore when the road is finished and the battery able to start crushing. GOLD RETURNS.

KtrßiNtxi .Him. —Le Manquais and party hive crushed 20 loads of general stuff at tha Moanatairi mill for the* return of 166zs 19dwts melted gold. * ■ Moanataibi.—Collins aud party, who ire tribuliug on a small leader at tqe
