Messrs E. F. TizABD and L. Ehrenfried, Esqs., J.s?., occupied tbe Bench in the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning. The civil oaees heard were B. Hales v J. B'yan, judgment sutnmons,£Blss 6d. Defendant was ordered to pay 10s per week and costs, or go tow»l for one month —Renniek v Parsons— Ofoim,'jE4 5s ld,and Read v Fuhrhop,fil9 9s 2d were undefended,' and judgment was given in •each' case,for .the nmonnt claimed. Mr Miller appenred for the plaintiff in all the cases.

Ysstbrday-Mr : George-■ jßryant who hat been engaged carrying tbe mails between Thames and Paeroa, met with an accident on tbe road. Near Pnriri he was thrown from bis horse and tbe animal fell on him. He is severely bruised, but no bones are broken

The unfortunate man,whoi» Yerj old, "appeared to be very weak, and his present oondition will more than probably be removed by a little medical attention and comfort. A. WBSL-ATTHNfiBD meeting of auctioneers was held in Wellington on Wednesday for thn purpose of considering: thefAuctioneers Act Amendment Bill recently introduced into the Home of BepresentatxTes. The provisions of the measure were discussed at 'length, and a number of amendments were ; suggested: the opinion of the meeting being that the bill in its present form was inimical to the interests of auctioneers. It was decided to have -the amendments printed in a circular form and forwarded to each member 'b( Parliament,—The Dunedin City 'Council, at a special held 'last" night to consider the Bill, suggested that the rise should be £50 instead of £10, also that a £10 fee should be required from /persons acting as share, property, or money brokers or appraisers.
