" The object of this Company i« to provide tonnage suitable to the growing trade of the Port of Auckland, so that the imports and' ezporti of- our city may be as much as possible carried in iooaxct ownkd yesseu, and the shipping business carried on by a PCBiIT fcOGAt COMPOST. - , • The rates of freights current in this colony compare most favorably with those ruling in neighboring colonies, and are as a rule sufficientiy remunerative to leave a good profit, trading hence eit er foreign or intercolonial. The acknowledged dtily increasing commermeroial imVortance of Auckland ii a couroe of gratificat;on, and the shipping trade, under skilful management, and with sufficient capital, would meet with speedy and great development with many psrts 6? the .World with which we are at present not in absolutely direct communication The object of this Company is to provide vessels to trade in the directions already opened, and others whioh may from time to time offer inducements. There ia ample room for a well-organised new line between Auckland and London, Liverpool and Glasgow, with New York, and with some of the larger centres of Continental European trades. Of course, ihe large and increasing export of balk and sawn timber will form an important adjunct- A trade with ' Tasmania, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide*, Ac, being already established, could easily be con* tinned with regularity, whilst the New* castie and Greymouth coal trades should be also provided for. . There is a vast field in prospective,- for a good trade with A < erica, Mauritius, China, Manilla, Calcutta, The Cape, Noumea, and nnmerous foreign ports, with some of whioh. even at the present moment, a profitable direct trade is being carried 'on in a desultory manner, and which would fiad support from the new industries lately established here and in prospective establishments^' The Company do not propose to limit themselves to running their own vessels, but will from time to time charter vessels when required, in the event of their own not being immediately available. Messrs Stone Bros.,fwho have for some time carried on a good stripping business, and who have now fairly started a new London'line, possess the nucleus of a fleet suitable for commencing operations, and arrangements have been made to take over their Teasels and the goodwill of their shipping business for the sum of thirty thousand six hundred and fifty pounds (£30,650), they taking half the amount in Company's shares. Their fleet,. consisting of 8 vessels, with aggregate tonnage of 2642 tons, should be augmented as soon as possible, so that the business may be extended without delay, especially the London and American, branches. . , . The servic s of Mr C. B. Stone, as managing director, and the staff at present under his control, 1 who are experienced in this line' of bwsfness, have been secured to take offioe under the new Company. - It is further proposed that !he working expenses should be conducted on strictly economical principles, the. expense of agencies and branches to be defrayed out of commissions on the actual freights earned by those branches. The proposed capital is set ..down at £150, 000, but as only a small portion is required at present for the purchase of the existing fleet and contingent expenses, further oapital will not be called up unt 1 vessels suitable for the London at>d other trades may offer for sale at easonahle prices., until whioh Lime.it is proposed to oharteV: vessels as required to supple- • ment the present fleet. - .It is proposed to invite'all Auckland busi- i ness-men and all who may have any interest . in the trade of our port to take Shares in this , -local Company, and to give the" undertaking every possible support. The Company would; thus be in a measure self-supporting, and strong enough to compete most successfully with any outs de or foreign company or foreign shipping. The Company could then ! not fail (o be a credit to our port, and a moit lucrative investment to Share-holders. The promoters having e*ery confidence in the success of the undertaking, now appeal to ' the public to ensure it by subscribing freely for Shar. s. LIST OF VKB3ELS.
