OUR MINES.

DEEP LEVEL CROSS. ; The crossreef in the drive northwards; or towards the Imperial boundary, at No. 5 level, was broken down this morning, and 201 bs specimens were bagged. A few pounds more were secured this afternoon, leaving a little gold showing in the face. Tbe stone was taken from the footwall of the reef, which is, from 18 inohes to 2 feet wide. The footwall leader in the leading stope also yieldeda few Vpbunds of picked stone today. V NEW PRINQE IMPERIAL. I

Connection was made this morning between the drive on No. 1 reef at No. 4 level and the winze; sunk on the footwall of the lode' from No. 3'level by contractors. ' • The 1 men were driven out by .£.*** d*/ ot two ago, so the manager; started them to rise from the drive, and; they broke through afterrisingabout4feet,' A nioe looking leader was discovered; striking off tbe footwall of the lode, be hind the winze, and in cutting through this a few pounds of picked stone were bagged. The distance from floor: to floor of the two levels is 130 ft, and as there is now good ventilation the manager will be able to open up this immense Mock without delay. QUEEN OFBEAUTT. The contractors for sinking the winae at No. 9 level seaward are down about 20 feet, but owing to the ground being tight, progress is not very fast. They are sinking on the footwall of the reef. The reef in the northern drive was broken down last night. The quartz is small, but carried excellent minerals, though shew-

'ing no fiold. In the face it i« apparently opening out. The leading and second stopea are in hand here, and in both the reef is looking well. The latter has broken into the Company's old block" of stopes. A new loader has been picked up in the old drive on the main reef at this level, about half way between the chamber at* the slide. It is about a foot wide, and il apparently striking along the hangingwall of the drive. It does not look very grand at present, but the manager intends to either - drive .aloafet it, or else crosscut in the vicinity of where the big patch wasj, obtained, as it may carry good gold alongside the slide. There is no change to report ill the itopes above No. 10 level. The drive going north is in a favorable class of country, and the reef continues to carry. good minerals, though it is smaller ttfLjp where the break crossed the drive. Tati lode in the seaward drive has been somewhat pinched up for a few feet,, but in the face j a great change for the better is apparent. ! The quartz <is much more,: kindly in appearance, and is .impregnated with a „splendid class of minerals for gold, being the same kind in which gold was found a few feet back. , .:... - , -V-Daet... ... . ■;; ■ : , The water was out of the shaft down to the bottom level by 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon, the pump thus having reduced it 200 ft in 46 hours. This is exceedingly satisfactory, as it proves that the company need not have the slightest tear of being driven out by water." It will pro* bably take a day or two to get things in working order, but driving on No. 1 reef will be started on Mouday. Tenders are also invited in another column, and will be received up to.Tuesday next, for driving a crosscut to intersect *No, 2 reef, from which the tributen took tome rjoh hauls of stone on the level above, the BeK't of which was obtained in the drive. - GOLD RETURNS. Adelaide.—Greaves and parfcyv v tribu« ters, have crushed a parcel.of qqartz at Bull's mill for the return of 13oxs 12dwts gold. _____
