QUEEN OF BEAUTY.
QUEEJ ~~ A#'No\ MMevel the drive towards the Piako bas been at a standstill for a day or two, white the men were patting in air boxes from the shaft to improre the renti« lation. The leading stope northward is now being carried along the continuation of the main reef, and the quartz is looking well for gold. At No. 9 level some stones shewing good gold were got in the leading stope over the north drive yesterday. NEW PBINCE IMPERIAL. The leader in the south crosscut, at the 640 feet level, is now showing across' the whole face of the drive, though it will not be cut through at the top for several feet, owing to its flatt underlie. Near the floor it is only 6 or. 8 inches wide, but appears to open out upwards, there being fully a foot in some places. A large quantity of water is . issuing from the reef and the country near it. The lode carries walk defined walls,' and is a strong body of stone. A good deal of mineral is scattered through the quartz, especially in the footwall portion, and the hangingwall carries a Ipt of white silica. The reef has a, rather flinty appearance at present, bat altogether is not unlike the No. 2 reef in. places at No. 5 level. Whether or not it is identical with that body is an open question. According to survey the JNo. 2 reef should be 80 feet ahead of the present face, but, as the reef just cut in the crosscut is dipping more rapidly to the north west than No. 3 in the Wpper levels, this increased underlie may account for the deriatiou. The quarts broken from it has been saved. Another breaking down last night in the 6th stope west on No. 2 reef above No. 5 level yielded a
hundredweight of specimens, making 5 hundredweight on hand for this month. DEEP LEVEL CROSS. The manager does not intend to open out at present on the reef cut in the Imperial ground at the 640 feet level, bat will push on the crosscut. At No. 6 level, the drive south on the croisreef has been temporarily stopped; and the men ' started to open out in the opposite direction, or towards the winze coming down from No. 4 level. The reef has been cut into 4 or 5 feet, and the hangingwall has . not yet been reached, a© theire is evideiSitTy J a large body of quarts at this poiof. MARTHA EXTBJSDED, (WAIHI.) Th<3 manager reports as" follbwf:— "Since la«t report I ,ba»e continued the rise in the Vouoig Colonial -section, with one single-handed shift. It is now up over forty feet, with very little change i* the appearance or quality of the reef. 'In tbe intermediate level I hsre carried a leading *tope along about thirty feet; the reef here is widening out upwards ; some places we are breaking it geven or eight feet^#ide, and of medium quality. We have got the Fraser lerel timbered through to Duloibel; boundary and three stopes under way, but there is very little change to report in - the appearance of the reef. The amount of amalgam obtained for- the week^wa* | 76ozs. lodwts. The battery is r«nnH>K\ o v fuir time aud.working Bitisfuctorily." ) City of MiNCHKSTBB.-^Scbtt and party, prospectors, have orusbed. 10 loads of general dirt at Ball's mill for the return of Ilozß 14dwts melted gold.
