The layer.of wash dirt strtack in tbe main tunnel of.the Boss XTnited Gold Company, Hokitika, still remains in the face carrying the same rich gold as reported. The mine manager ba« nlso . started across the drive with a view to testing the quantity of wasb. Eight feet were driven yesterday, and the result obtained was H ounces gold to 2\ loads. There seems every prospect of this proving to be an extensive layer which can be at once, worked, as it is above the level of the permanent tail race tunnel. The second engine for the pumpingSplanfc for this company, shipped by Price Bros, a short time ago, has arrived at Westport, and will be on tbe ground in a few days. -A later telegram says :--" Mr- Gibson, .manager of the Boss United Company, tWestland, obtained 7ozs ldwt gold as the product 6frl4 loads of wash taken from .the'lQQft. level yesterday.
