Melboubne, Yesterday.'
Tli© Napier Harbor Works.
Mr Culchetb, of this city, whose plans ; , the harbor at papier have .been selected by the judges in London, reports as follows on his scheme :—-It'proposes that a Grst groin, 750 feet long, be formed at the bluff, to pre Tent theshingleaccumulating; when they are constructed, which will probably be within two years, groins two thousand feet long will be carried oat from the north coast; only a portion will be completed at first, but extensions will be made as necessary within three years The east mole will gradually advance as the scour deepens the channel. The mole will probably be 400 feet at first, bat 800 feet are provided for if necessary. The channel will then be flreHged, anil it is expected that a depth of 20 feet will be obtained within fire years, instead of 12 feet as at present. New quays will shoal in the channel from the Iron Pot to the bridge, thus forming an island. The works will generally be of timber, with rubble filling.- The proposed scheme is estimated to cost £250,000, but it is expected that not so much as that will be required, probably only half that amount. . , Arrived, this moraine: The Orient steamship Liguria, from Plymouth, June 3rd.
