NAPIER
This day. The schooner Transit, 70 tonsj Captain Garroway, bound ,for Lyttelton with a cargo of guano, put in here last Friday with the main boom broken. The broken boom and onainsaH-were sent ashore, and the schooner anchored in the roadstead. A north-east gale sprang up on Monday, and increased yesterday with a very high sea. Last night the gale moderated, but the aea still increased. The Transit was riding to twp anchors. About two a.m. both cables parted, and the, vessel went ashore on Petane> Beach:! .iAs the vessel neared the breakers the crew of six hands took to the rigging and all got ashore; one man wasithrowtt to the deck ! when the vessel struck, and was rather badly hurt; he was landed Safely. The sea is now going down, but the vessel is a total wreck. V; Lateb. The Marine Department has received a telegram', that the schooner Transit, wrecked at Napier, was uninsured. The Transit, wrecked 'at Napier, today is owned by Jagg~er,~ 'Hooper,- and Easdown of Auckland. V The' insurance was only effected yesterday afternoon, the hull for £500 in the South British, the cargo between £400 add in jtb.6 Universal. ' ' i
