OUR MINES.

QUEEN OF BEAUTY.

In order to open up the block on the main - reef seaward, and also to obtain better ventilation, a winze is to be rank at No. 9 level, from the end of the drive put in by Mr Black, 100 feet from the shaft. Tenders will be received up to noon on Tuesday for the work, a The

wii.z will iif >ii:.k .xi the fbotwall of the ret-i, and vriil be made as small as is prac> ticable, so as to %et ihs work done quickly. When communication is effected, gtoping will be started. Tn seaward drive at Fo 10 level the reef past the break is of large size. No breaking down wilt tnke place for a day or two. Connolly and party had an interim retorting to day for the rich mult of 2370zs gold from 4900zs amalgam.

KURsNCI HILL

The drive northwards on Hunt's reef from the prospecting shaft is now in about 6 feet from the crosscut. The reef ha« improved iv appearance considerably) and it also seems to be gradually getting more upriuhf, from which fact the manager thinks it viiil soon take its proper underlie to the dor U-west. The quartz is about 2J feet wi.le in the top of the drive, nnd a little smaller in the bottom. Excellent minerals are seen in breaking, especially on the footwallv inJ colors and dabs of gold li.tve also b^en found, so there is very litt'e doubt about the dirt being payable. The Moauatairi .No. 9 reef has been found in the Belfast tunnel, and driving will be started on it on Thursday towards where Mr Crawford was formerly driving in Kelly's section. The reef is about two feet wide and well mineralised. The distance between the two faces is about 200 feet, and a slide, near which good gold was got in parallel leaders, crosses the country to be driven through. -

ADELAIDE.

The proprietors of this claim have crushed 6 loads of dirt from the City of Manchester reef in the south-eastern dri?e, for the payable return of 7ozs. lSdwts. gold, worth 62s 6d per ounce. This drive is the only work in progress, except the tributers. The leader is small at present, owing to the country being hard, but a better and more easily worked class of sandstone is now coming in.

ROCKY POINT

The contractors are making excellent progress with the crosscut, having driven 59 feet last fortnight, in good country. Another 40 or 50 feet of driving should intersect Duke's reef, and if the present class of ground continues, the proprietors are in hopes of getting gold in that lode, which will be driven on to its junction with the City of Manchester reef, a distance of about 300 feet.

GOLD RETfJRNS

City of Manchester —Scott and party, proprietors, have banked the good return of 45ozs. 16dwts gold.

Caledonian.—-Williams and party have banked 7ozs. sdwts. gold.
