The Premier received a telegram yesterday from the Premier of Queensland, urging prompt action to induce the I rape ■ rial Government to reconsider its decision on the Annexation Question.

The ship Georee Roper has not yet been moved. The sea is calm, and she is so far uninjured.

An examination of the ship George Roper shews that she has fully eight feet of water in her hold. The surveyors. consider her a total loss, and recommend that she be sold as she lies.

It is authoritatively stated here that a French war steamer has hoisted the French flag on the Mallicol and Erromonga Islands in the New Hebrides group.

In the Legislative Assembly last night a Government Bill to authorise* the conduction of a trans-continental railway by a syndicate, was thrown out by a considerable majority. In consequence of this defeat it is expected that the Ministry will ask for a dissolution of Parliament.

The' committee appointed by the General Synod to select a candidate for the vacant Primacy of Sydney is now in communication with certain English Bishops. The result will be announced at the meeting of the Synod next month.
