OUR MINES.
QUEEK OF BEACTTY. At No. 9 level the riao is up about 6ft. above the back of the drive. In the east crn end the reef is not showing, .except at the bottom, as it is under the clay head which heaved it, but at the opposit • end it is visible all along the roof. It is a gocd looking body of Stone, carrying favorable minerals, bat no gold is showing either here or at tbe eastern end. In the drive a change of country came in behind a clay s^am and pinched the reef very small, .but in the din the sandstone is again ! changing for the better. A little gold was seen in breaking down the reef. All the mullock from these workings is thrown down into the stopes above No. 10level to fill up. Ebth sides of'lhe winze the reef f Jibs opened out. and is looking well. Close alongside the sjide fully 10ft. wide of crushing dirt is beiDg shot down, and the fourth stop' 1 .towards the shaft is over Bft wide.. ■ A promising leader about five inches wide strikes off into the hangingwall of this atope. No gold baa been seen in it; but it looks well, the minerals being very favorable for £»old. A,! No. 10 level in the drive norlh a break has crossed the face; heaving the reef, which will, however, probably be picked up a foot or two to the left, as a large amount of water is soaking through the break in that direction. The men have started work with this" object. The reef is a strong brdy ofi quartz where heaved, being a foot wide in the roof of the drive, and . over 18. inches in the bottom. No gold was seen in the breaking, but the mineral is like that which accompanied! the gold at' No. 9 level. In'the drive seaward at this level a break has also crossed the drive, heaving the reef 5 feet to the right. It was close alongside this break that the gold was seen on Saturday, and the reef, where just picked up looks well for gold. None of it has yet been taken down, and owing to, the break dipping seaward very fiat the drive will have to be pushed ahead 10 feet or more before the reef will be showing for the full height. The manager will clean up. and petort for the month on Friday. NEW PKINGE IMPERIAL. . The drive upon, the footwall leader at No. 5 level is up to the Cross boundary, but a portion of the quartz is still to be broken down., The leading stope is now past just where the reef splits, and in taking down the footwall vein to-day alAmt 80ibs of specimens were bagged, reiving a.good show of gold for fully Bft in the ; roof. The fourth stope is ]ust through the break, and thread- is sjplit into two portions-, one standing almost vertical, and the other having a strong underlie. They are now about 10ft apart. The footwall one is looking well, and a few pounds of stone were bagged from it ; to-day. Tbefifth etbpe is within 12ft of the break. The reef in it is looking well, Bold being seen freely. Eastward of the winze tbe reef also looks well; it vanes in size from 3 to 18 inches, but shows gold freely each breaking down. DEEP LEVEL CBOSS. The drive on the hangingwall branch of No. 2 reef at No. 5. level is in about 30 feet past the winze. Tbo leader is fully a foot wide, well mineralised, and showing a little gold. .Its- strike is more to the southward than in tbe Imperial. . In the face another body of quartz is coming in Off the left batid side, and it should junction with themain lead a few feet ahead. A chamber has been cut out on the boundary, and the winze to connect with the 640 feet level will be started shortly. At No. 4 level the winze on the erossreef is down about 65 feet. The footwall branch of the lode, which dropped off near the level, has come in again, and will junction with the hangingwall branch 3 0r.4 feet lower down. The quartz shows a little gold, and is heavily mineralised, j .r.'V ' .« QOUD BETUENS. '. . Kubanui Hill.—Cleaning up ; took place to-day for the return of 38ozs5dwts gold.
