C<Berger. * The object of this Company is to provide tonnage suitable to the growing trade of the Port of Auckland, so that the imports and exports of our city may be asmuQh as possible carried in iooai.it owkkd yesbbib, and the shipping business carried on by a PUBKTjT LOCAL COMPWT. The rates of freights current in this colony compare most favorably with thone ruling in neighboring colonies, and are as a rule sunl« ciently"remunerative to leave a good profit, trading hmce eit er foreign or intercolonial, Tbe acknowledged dfcfty increasing commermercial im ; ortatce of Auckland is a source of gratificat'on, and tbe shipping trade, under skilful management, and with sufficient capital, would meet with speedy and great development with many parts of the World with which we are at present net in absolutely direct communication Tbe object of this Company is to provide vpssels to trade in the directions already opened, and others wbich may from time to time offer inducements. There is ample room for a well-organised new line between Auckland and London, Liverpool and Glasgow, with New York, and with some of the largr* centreß of Continental European trades. Of course, the large and increasing export of balk and Bawn timber will form an. important adjunct. A trade with Tasmania, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, &c, being already established, could easily be continued with regularity, whilst the Newcastle and Groymouth coal trades should be also provided for. r£ There is a vast field in prospective for a good trade} with A-erica, Mauritius, China, ManiMa, Calcutta, Tbe Cape, Noumea, and numerous foreign ports, with some of whioh. even at the present moment, a profitable direct trade is being carried on in a desultory manner, and which would find support from the new industries lately established . here and in prospective establishments. The Company do not propose to limit themselves to running their own vessels, but will from time to time charter vessels when required, in the event of their own not being immediately available. Messrs Stone Bros.,£wbo have for some time carried on a good shipping business, and who have now fairly started a new London line, possess the nucleus of a fleet suitable for commencing operations, and arrangements have been made to take over their vessels and the goodwill of their shipping busineßS for the sum of thirty thousand sit hundred and fifty pounds (£30,650), they taking half the amount in Company's shares. Their fleet, consisting of 8 vessels, with aggregate tonnoge of 2642 tons, should be augmented as soon us possible, so that tbe business may be extended .without delay, especially the Londan aud American branches. The servic s of Mr C. B. Stone, as ma>iaging director," and tbe staff at pn>«K-nt. under his control, who are experienced iv this line of business, hare been secured to take offioe under the new Company It is further proposed ttial !he working expenses should be c&aducted on utrict/y economical principles, the' j-'*xpense of agencies aud branches to be defrayed out of commissions on the actual freights earned by those branches. The proposed capital is eet down at £150, 000, but as only a small portion is required at present for the purchase of the existing fleet and contingent expenses, further capital will not be called up until v.esels suitable for the London and other trades may offer for sale at easona' rle prices, until which time it is pro* posed to charter vessels as required to auppleinent the present fleet. It is proposed to invite all Auckland businessmen and all who may have any interest in the trade of our port to take Shares in this local Company, and to give the undertaking* every possible support. The; Company would thus be in a measure self-supporting, and strong enough to compete most successfully with any outs de or foreign company or foreign shipping. The Company could then not ftatl to be a credit to our port, and a most lucrative investment to Share-holders. The promoters having every confidence in tbe success of the undertaking, now appeal to the public to ensure it by subscribing freely for Sb»r b. ' .
