Intelligence has been received that j the Ultimatim submitted by the French Commander has been rejected by ' the Malagese, and that French troops have advanced, and have been captured at Tamatave. The Custom House there has been seized and occupied, and the Hovas have fled before the advancing troops. A telegram is to hand reporting that an Egyptian named Marabout is preaching a Jehad or holy war in South Egypt. The Times' despatch on the subject adds that the Egyptian Government has already despatched a body of troops to the locality to 'effect the capture of Marabout and his followers. The cargo of frozen meat by the ship Jady Jocelyn, from Wellington, has arrived in good condition. - The first portion of the mutton was sold to-day, and realised 6|d per pound. : The homeward mails via Brindisi, from Melbourne May 8, were delivered here to-day. London, June 19. In the House of Commons last night Sir Stafford Northcote moved that tbe Eight Hon. John Bright be committed for a breach of privilege in the course of his recent address at Birmingham, in accusing the Tories of being in alliance with Irish rebels. The motion was, however rejected. The representative^ iq London of the North British Borneo Company denied the truth of the report current yesterday regarding the murder' of the company's employes by the natives of the island. The Agents-General of the various Australian colonies and New Zealand are strongly urging the annexation of the New Hebrides gronp. The Imperial Government's difficulty in the way of carrying the project into execution consists in an agreement between England and France ;o refrain from annexing the islands in the Pacific. i The report that Mr Richard O'Shannessy had been appointed Governor of' Queensland has not received any official confirmation. Capetown, June 18. Intelligence is to hand of a further difficulty between the Transvaal Boers and the border tribes. Telegrams have been received stating that the Usula natives had made a successful excursion in force into the Trsansvaal territory, carrying off a large number of cattle. Chaliemel Lacour, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will probably resign in. consequence of the action of the Premier and-President, and the former will take the vacant portfolio. An aeronaut, accompanied by an actress attempted to.; Cross the Mediterranean in a balloon* > but failed, ■ the balloon descending into the sea. They were rescued by a passing vessel. The Hon. Charles Tupper has been gazetted iis successor to Sir Alexander Gait, as High Commissioner for Canada. Sir Stafford Northcote willmove in the House of Commons that the accusations made by Mr Bright respecting the Tories amount to a breach of privilege.
