■ The object of thiß Company is to provide tonnage suitable to tbe- growing trade of the Port of Auckland, so that tho imports and exports of our city maybe as much as possible carried in xocat/ly owkkd yesseis, and the shipping business carria-i on by' a PURELY XOOAL COMPANY. "\ The rates of freights current in thia colony compare most favorably with those ruling in neighboring colonies, and are as a rule sufficiently remunerative) to leave a good ,profit, trading hence eit' er foreign or intercolonial. The acknowledged dfcily increasing rammermeroial importance of Auckland is a source of gratification, and tbe shipping trade, under > skilful' management, and with sufficient . . capital, would meet with speedy and great. development with many parts of tho World with which we are at present not in obsjlutely m, direct communication The object of this' Company is to provide vessels to trade in the directiqna already opened, and others "which may from time to time offer inducements. There is ample room for a well-organised new line between Auckland and London, . Liverpool and Glasgow, with New York, and / with some of the largff centres of Continental Bnropean trades. Of course, the large and increasing export of balk and sawn timber trill form an important adjunct. A trade with Tasmania, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, &c, beiug already established, could easily be continued with regularity, whilst tho Newcastle and Greymoutii coal trades should be also provided for. There is a vast field in prospective for a • ■' good trade* with A erica, Mauritius, China, Manilla, Calcutta, The Cape, Noumea, and nnmerous foreign porls, with some of which. even at" the present moment, a profitable direct trade is being carried on in a desultory manner, and ( which would find support from the new industries lately established here and in prospective establishments. The Company do not propose to l limit themselves to running their own vessels, but will from time to time 1 charter vessels when required, in the event of their own not being immediately available. Messrs Stone Bros.,swho have for some time carried on a good shipping businees, and who have now fairly started a new London line, nossess tho nucleus of a foot suitable for commencing operations, and arrangements have been made to take over their vessels and the goodwill of their shipping business for the sum of thirty thousand six hundred and fifty pounds (£30,650),. they taking half the amount in Company's shares. Their fleet, consisting of 8 vessels, with aggregate tonnage of 2642 tons, should be augmented as Boon as possible, 'so that tbe business, may bo extended without delay, especially the London and American branches. . , . v-» • -. The servic s of Mr C. B. Stone, as managing director, and the staff at present, unde* his control, who are experienced in this line of .. business, have been. secured to take office ' under the new Company. Ifc is further proposed that 'he working expenses should be conducted on striqtly econom- ' icsi principles, tbe expense of agencies aud branches to be defrayed out of eommisMons on the actual freights^arned by those branches. Tbe proposed cspital is set down at £150, OOOj but as only a small portion is required at present for the purchase of tho existing fleet and contingent expenses, further capital will not be called up unt 1 v^ssolb suitable for the London and other trade* may otter for sale at leasonable prices, until which Lime, it is proposed to charter vessels as required to supplement the present fleet. It is proposed to invite all Auckland busi-ness-menand all who may have any interest in the trade qf our port to take Shares in this local Company, and to give the undertaking every possible support. The Company would thus be in a measure self-supporting, and Strong enough to compete moat successfully with any outs de or foreign - company or foreign shipping.; The Company could then not fail to be a credit to.our port, and a most lucrative investment to Share-bolders. The promoters having every confidence in the success,of the undertaking, now appeal to the public-Hto ensjie it' by eubsenbin^ Irt-ely /or Sb»r si ; "' ;■ f " • • LIST OP VE3dELfI.
