The s.s. lonic, Captain E. O. Hallett, R.N., arrived in harbour shortly after midnight, having made the passage in 43 day 22 hours, from Plymouth, inclusive of ten hours' detention at Teneriffe for coaling purposes, the actual period under way being 43 days 6 hours. Fine weather with moderate winds was experienced throughout the voyage, and no occurrence of special interest took place. The ship has arrived in beautifully clean order. In addition to the Government immigrants, she has a considerable number of saloon passengers, all well. There are six of the regular employes of the New Zealand Shipping Company serving as officers on board, Captain Bone, late of the Rakaia, being second officer. A man named Henry Cook has been committed for trial by the Takaka Bench for bigamy. It is alleged that he, in 1868, married Ann Hammond, said now to be livine in Wellington,—and in 1880, under the name of Henry Cook Wilkinson, married a widow named Shere. The Supreme Court Criminal sessions will open on Friday before Judge Richmond with five cases for trial. They are those of Davidson and Mrs Grammatico, for murder ; J. Busch, for maiming a horse; F. Three or four of the seamen hare been-sentenced to 14 days imprisonment for refusing duty on the voyage.
