Co.—The winze is being carried down, and good gold continues to be seen in the quartz. New FiNS.n-Instruotions have been received from the directors in Auckland to proceed immediately to let a contract for connecting mine with County tramI way. As the distance is only five chains, no difficulty should be experienced in having all connections ready by the opening of the tramway. Inverness Licensed Holding.—The owners of this mine have'made arrangements to have a trial crushing at the Battery Company's mill in about a fortnight. The quartz will be carried down Butler's Spur by means of the trolly now used in laying rails up the spur.., Welcome Licensed Holding.—A crushing of one ton will take place from I this mine at the Albumin Battery (Thames) about the end of next week. Webahiko and Waitoki G.M. Coys. —The connections witß County tramway and the mines are nearly complete. Alphabetical GoldMinikg Company —The manager has bad men engaged in working the portion of the company's ground known as Moa No. 1 for the last few weeks, and they have driven a distance of 70 feet, in a winze connecting the surface with intermediate level. A depth of 60 feet has been completed. About 40 tons of quartz have been saved for forwarding to the battery from winze showing good gold. No. 2 Moa: The men are driving on No. 3 reef (running nearly north and I south and underlying west), from which such large returns of silver and gold wore obtained from au assay some short time back. The drive is now in a distance of 100 feet. The reef varies ? from 2to 3 feet, about 50 feet of which shows nice gold. A quantity of quartz have been paddocked for sending to the battery. Simultaneously with the above works, a tunnel is being driven to intersect a large reef running north-east and southwest. The junction of the lodes may be looked for in another 20. feet of driving. ; , Eubbea,—Work in this mine is steadijy progressing. The low level is now in a distance of 262 feet. The reef in the face of the drive is about five feet in width, gold showing freely in the stuff broken out. The manager intends to start rising (when the drive is extended a further distance of 16 feet) to connect with the winze sank on the surface tEttn. which the trial crushing was obcainvd that yielded at the rate of l|ozs. to the ton. When the rise is completed there will be a fine block of ground opened up ready for stoping, there being 150 feet of backs overhead at the present face, and as the drive is continued further into the hill and nnder where the best gold was obtained on the surface the backs will increase in depth. Gold has been teen in the low level for a distance of 30 feet, and appears to be improving as the drive is. pushed ahead;
