Yesterday

Major Atkinson last night had a long conference with the members of Friendly Societies regarding National Insurance and Friendly Society business. The following resolution was passed by a large majority •:-—" That in the opinion of the meeting the scheme of national insurance, as propounded by the Hon. Major Atkinson, has much to recommend it, but that, in its preliminary state, it is premature to pass any decisive resolution." A unanimous Tote of thanks was given Major Atkinson.

The Licensing Bench have reduced all 12 o'clock licenses to 11 o'clock.
