SPIRITISM.
(To the Editor of the Evening Star.)
Sib,—Before I give you my promised letter on the real evil spirits of the sacred writings, I cannot let pass.ua* noticed the. last clause of Mr Horn's letter of Thursday last. It contains the very essence of lawlessness. In Mr Horn's interpretation of a fine passage from the apostle Paul, " He that feareth God and. worketh righteousness is accepted of Him." He (Mr Horn) gires us as his unique interpretation of the passage the following,- "Everyone who lives Up to HIS CONVICTION OF TBUTH AND doty is on the road of eternal progress, whatever may be his belief." I hesitate not to say that a broader statement containing the essence of lawlessness in a few words will aot be found in any of the leading spiritist works of the day. It is simply Nihilism in embryo. And what is Nihilism P Why, that every man, woman and child should be allowed to do just as they please, without letor hinderanee; that is Nihilist doctrine right over, by their lectures, and that will be spiritist doctrine when it becomes full blown.and.perfected; of the same kidney are Socialists, Communists, Fenians, Internationalists, and a variety of other secret societies of the day. Their object is to pull down and reduce to chaos every lawful institution—political, social, and ecclesiastical-—and make the. world a pandemonium of infernalism. Mr Horn's interpretation cannot be mistaken by any observant person. The word HIS, which I capitalize, contains the secret of all the lawlessness now existing and yet to come. " His or her conviction of truth and duty " watch the cases in a Police Court closely in these days, and you will soon discover what is " his or her conviction of truth andjduty.". In a word the law of the Deity and the law of nations are to be no more, and every man, woman, and child are to do as they please, and if people cannot see the elements of this horrible state of things even now thickening all around them, then they must be blind indeed.
