NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.
The No. 1 reef has been cut through to the hangitigwall in the crosscut at No. 3 level, and is found to be about 3ft. wide. A little gold was seen all through it. The reef has a strong dip to the northward, and the backs ou it from No. 4 level np to where it has just been cut at No. 3 are 160 ft. The winding machinery was stopped to*day while the new spiders and clutch gear were being placed in position, but the manager expects to make a start again on Monday. LONDON. Iv stripping the JNo. 1 reef in the east drive at No. 3 level, a number ot stringers are fouod on the fobtwall of the lode. These are being shot down and are saved fur crushing. Som^ good colors of gold were seen in them this morning. A small break passed through the reef eastward, and beyond this it changes its underlie,'and dips to the northward. The manager will break down in the beginning of next week. DABT. , The surface works are progressing well, and the manager thinks that in about four weeks he will be able to start work. The last of the foundation logs was laid this morning, and the men started to erect the engine-house. The foundation is of heart of kauri logs 18 x 16in, on which beams 14 x I4in are built up solid. J hese are mortised into other beams the same size at each end, and keyed together, the whole being fastened by two inch bolts. The balance bob is in position. The engine has been shipped, and will be lauded here next week and conveyed to the mine. In building the engine-house, the western end will be left open so as to get the machinery in. The chimney is about half finished, and the boiler is to be placed in position on Monday. The floor of the tunnel is pitched with rough stones, so tb.it the drainage can get away easily. I The water in the shaft is about 60 feet from the surface. WAIOTAHI. Cleaning up and retorting for the month took place to«day for the yield of 2550zs retorted gold, which was reduced to 2510zs 6dwts on melting. The amount of general dirt crushed from all parts of the mine was 180 tons. GOLD RETUBNS. Caledonian.—Cater and party have put through a small parcel of dirt for 19dwts gold.
