TAURANGA.

ISTesterday. Tawhiao arrived with about 300 fol

lowers. His son, Tako, and an interpreter are with him. Tawhiao oxpressed his pleasure at his reception in Tauranga. He found the road from Alexandra to Te Aroha in a very fair order. He was surprised to find such a good road to Katikati, but he wished it had been a driving road, so that he could have travelled in his buggy. This is his first visit to Tauranga. He speaks in friendly terms of the pakehas, and'says all the differences can be easily arranged. " Let us pull together, and not pull different ways." He starts for Maungatawa to-morrow, and will remain there two days, and then go to Maketu, via Tepuke. He will remain at Maketu probably a fortnight. His further movements are unknown.
