SPIRITISM, &c.
(To the Editor of the Evening Star.)
Sib,—There is no discussing matters with Mr H. I hare often tried to do so, but nod it impossible. The man has no standard to uphold, no basis whatever on which to erect a substantial religious fabric; consequently he is carried about by every wind of teaching of those spirits of evil he puts his trust in, believing all the while they are good honest spirits, when in reality they are the most arrant frauds. I gave him a solid basis in those four points I named—the basis of the Deity in Christ Jesus, upon which the whole superstructure of Christianity rests, but he will not have it. He, just as I expected, evades it and goes into a long rigmarole of nonsense, 'with false assertions to prove that all the religions of the day differ upon these undeniable foundations of Christianity. What do I care about the religions of these days P These religions for the most part are but of a negative character so far as belief or faith is concerned. People now believe in nothing, particularly so long as they can make plenty of money—they will dare anything to do that—but as to faith in the Christianity of Christand His apostles, where is it now ? This matters not however, the foundation of the Deity in Christ Jesus His Celestial Son stand true j though all mankind may apostatize therefrom. Through the miraculous conception a pure thing was made to grow in and to issue from an impure source, "aclean thing out of an unclean," " that Holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of the Most High." Now, herein is the earnest that all which is now impure ; and what is not impure ? The very heaven (Tartarus) is not pure in the sight of Piety for unclean infernal spirits roam about in it seeking whoever they may devour. But the miraculous conception, I say by Bible authority is the earnest, that all shall be made pure and and holy. Grand thought this, Mr H! but the fact will be infinitely more grand and glorious than the thought, and the fact is predicted all through the book you condemn. Yes, Mr H. between the two covers of that " grand old book" are verities which merely human eyes never see, never can see, except by the light of the Holy Spirit of the Deity and His Christ. Your bogus spirits never reveal these verities ; they know them but tremble at them. If I had to get my hope for the future from your spirits, Mr H., I fear I should be poorly off when Christ Jesus, my master, returns to earth to give re* wards to his no* faithful friends and servants, in this kingdom to come, which almost every child in Christendom was at one time taught to pray for in what is termed the Lord's Prayer, though in fact that prayer is, or should be, every disciples prayer, now more particularly, for the Kingdom of Christ is close at hand, the evident speedy breaking up of present kingdoms proves the fact. If you want proofs, Mr H., you will have plenty of them very speedily now. Open your eyes and look at the condition of all mankind. Sings upon their thrones are all trembling for their very existence as kings, while the people, who have been falsely taught by those, their teachers, who have been well paid to teach them the truth, are all wondering what is to come next. Had they taken heed to the •* sure word of prophecy," as I have done, they would know as well as myself what is coming next. If people will persist, like Mr H., in despising the sacred writings, then, verily, they will know but little of what is coming upon the earth until they have to feel bitterly its effects. Mr H. asks me a question—" Did the Apostles require a belief from their converts of the first four points I named?" I answer certainly they did, and refer him to the first few chapters of the Acts of the Apostles for proof. lam not bound to give him proofs, when he can by searching the Book find them for himself. A common schoolboy is supposed to discover proofs for himself, and this is the way to become an apt scholar in anything. I shall take no further notice of Mr HV, or his bogus spirits either, but shall in my next with your permission, Mr Editor, show for the enlightenment of the public, from the Bible, who are the spirits that have for now over 6000 years afflicted mankind and shall prove from the same' source that the end of that affliction is close at hand.
Bible Tbuxh.
P. B.—l will say here I hare no ill* feeling whatever towards Mr H,, or liny one elsei far from it. But I can see where he is mistaken, and would like to convince him that he is mistaken and bring him to truth. *
