MINING SUMMARY.
;. ,r / : »' * Since-last summary mining matters hare been quiet, and shares have fallen a little in price/ Some excitement was caused last week by the discovery of gold at No. 10 level of the Queen of Beauty mine, and, shares advanced from 18s to 27s 6d,' but fell again when only a few colors of the precious metal were seen next breaking down. The winze from No. 9 level has broken into No. 10. A little gold was seen in sinking, but no specimens were obtained, though the reef looked well. Mr Chas. Wilson has been .appointed to the management, and took charge this week. He intends to crosscut at No. 10 level to see if any leaders dropped off from the reef, which is much , smaller than at the level above. New Prince Imperial:. -Jibe mine continues to look well, and the return • for last month was an average of 2ozs per load. 17 head of stampers are now employed, and next week an additional 10 will be started. scwt. of specimens and picked stone have come to hand this month. At No. 4 level the Mariner's reef in the drive and stopes is from 3 to 4ft wide, and is good, payable stuff. The No. 2 reef is also producing good crushing dirt. At No. 5 level the reef |has been driven on to the break, where 2cwt. of rich specimens were bagged. A leader, showing gold freely and about 18 inches wide, was found just behind the break, and is being driven on. Opinion is divided as to whether this is the continuation of the No. 2 reef or a hangingwall leader cut atNo. 4 level. A crosscut has been Eut into the footwall to see if No. 2 reef as been heaved there, but no reef has yet been cut. Deep Level Cross: The return 'for last month was a very satisfactory one, the dirt averaging over 2ozs per load. The stopes continue to yield payable quartz. The winze on the crossreef is down 25ft., and the reef looks well, though no gold has been seen lately. The winze on the No. 2 reef, which it is intended to carry to the 640 ft. level, a distance of 300 feet, is down 47 feet, and the leader, though small and disturbed by a break, showed good gold last breaking down. The 640 ft. crosscut is at a standstill for a few days, !the machinery being stopped for boiler inspection. It is in good country. Thames Winding Association: The water has been - baled out of the shaft, and next week the. Mariner Company should be able to start work. The London will also start shortly, the level being nearly cleaned out. The Queen of England is driving on the No. 1 reef, which looks well, but has shown no gold yet. The Moanatairi has started crushing with the .new' motor. There is nothing fresh to report from the mine. Kuranui Hill: The,trial crushings from the leaders, at the SOft level did not yield well, but better dirt is' now coming to hand. A small i shaft has been sunk to propect Barry's and Hunt's reefs, which yielded •well in earlier days- They are being crosscutted for. New North Devon: Shares have risen lately, the Alburnia 'company having'driven on a gold bearing reef up to the boundary. Work will be started on it shortly. The. Caledonian return for last month was payable, and good dirt is coming to hand. The Bright ginity mine, in the Waiotahi Creek, is looking well, payable dirt being obtained. The Seymour. Cpmpany, Karaka Creek, M sinking w good country, and expect, to be deep enough in six. weeks, there yet being 80ft to go to- complete the 200 ft it was decided to sink before opening out. The Dart, Hape Creek, is erecting the new 'pumping and winding machinery which will take, about; five weeks to complete. From the other mines there is nothing fresh of importance to report. In the Upper Country, the districts of JEar&ngahaJce, Owharoa, and Te Aroha are looking well.. The Otunui field is tjuiet,' but the battery will be completed in a few weeks, and if the County Council bite'the road done in time crushing will be started.
