AUCKLAND

This day.

Superintendent Thomson has gone lo Mercer to prosecute Messrs Hudson, Williamson, the Crown Prosecutor, and George, solicitor, for shooting game out of season. It is rumored that the de fendants, who were entirely misled by an erroneous Wellington telegram as to the period when the shooting season opened, intend to plead guilty to an unwilling breach of the law, and Mill leave the matter in the hands of the Bench.

A Wellington telegram says :—Ministers now shut themselres up in Cabinet The greater part of each day preparing measures for parliament; indeed, it is also rumoured that they meet at night also, but for this I cannot vouch. It is whispered that a bulky programme is already compiled for the benefit of members, and that printers hare their hands full with new bills.

It was stated at the City Counci yesterday that the works authorised exceeded by £25,000 the estimated revenue for the, ensuing year.

The Governor has promised to attend the Takapuna races.

Major Withers is very ill.
