Thirty-fire .thousand ,pounds has already been collected for the Baptist Tabernacle, and a site, costing £3090, has been purchased. The building will cost about £8000. At the soiree held last night £800 was promised.
John Gibbons, while fastening the steamer Lily to the Riverhead wharf yesterday, had his foot torn off at the ankle. His leg got in the bight of the wharf, and was crushed against the pile.
. The Hinemoa, with the Governor on board, returned from the cruise in the Hauraki Gulf last night. Kawau, was visited, and Sir George Grey entertained his Excellency.
Arrived: Kangitikei from London, Captain Millman, with 200 immigrants.
The Captain of the Eangitiku reports that on Feb. 3rd, in the Bay of Biscay, he picked up two Chinese seamen from the vessel " Kemuure Castle/ which found*
ered on Feb. 2nd. The Chinese, who were on a raft; stated that three of their companions had dropped off the raft, from cold and exposure ; they also stated only one boat got clear of the ship. On Feb. Bth the Rangitiku rescued the captain, mate, and five of the crew of a dismasted schooner, named Mary Agatha, bound from Newport to Guangra, South America.
