The object of this Company is to provide ■ tonnage suitable to the growing trade of the Port of Auckland, so that the imports and exports of our city may be as much at possible carried in locally OWNED VESSEIfI, and the shipping business carried on by a pusblt IOCAL COMPANY. The rates of freights current in this colony compare most favorably with those ruling in neighboring colonies, and are as a rule tufficiently remunerativfl to ; leave a good profit, trading hence eit er foreign or intercolonial. The acknowledged daily increasing commerraercial im ortance of Auckland is a source of gratificat on, and the shipping trade, under skilful management, and with sufficient capital, would meet with speedy and great development with many parts of the World with which we are.ar. preterit not in absolutely direct communication. The object of this Company is to provide vessels to trade in fhe directions already opened, and others which may from time to time offer inducements. There is. ample room for a well-organised new line between Auckland and London, Liverpool and Glasgow, with New Yt rk, and with tome of the-larger centres of Continental Enropean trades. Of "course, the large and increasing export of balk and sawn timber willform an important adjunct. A trade with Tasmania, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Ac, being alreaiy established, could easily be continued with regularity, whilst the Newcastle and Greymoutli coal trades should be alsa provided for. = There is a vast field in prospective for a good trade with America, Mauritius, China, Manilla, Calcutta, The^Capo, Noumea, and numerous foreign por s, wi'h some of which. e?en at the present moment, a profitable i direct trade is being carried on in a desultory manner, and which would find support from the new industries lately established here and in prospective establishments. The Company do not propose to limit themselves to running their own vessels, but will from time to time charter vessels when required, in the event of their own not being immediately available. Messrs Stoiae Bros., who have for some time carried on a good snipping business, »nd-who have now fairly started a new London line, possess the nucleus of a fleet suitable for commencing operations, and arrangements have been made to take over their vessels and the goodwill of their shipping business for the sum of thirty thousand cix hundred and fifty pounds (£30,650), they taking half the amount in Company's shares. Their fleet, consisting of 8 vessels, with aggregate tonnage of 2643 tons, should be augmented as soon as possible, so that the business may be extended without | delay, especially the London and American branches. The Bervic s of Mr 0. B. Stone, as managing director, and the staff at present under his control, who are experienced in this line of business, have been secured to take office under the new Company. It is further proposed that the working expenses should be conducted on strictly econom- - ical principles, the expense of agencies and branches to be defrayed out of commi»»ions on the actual freights earned by those branches. The proposed capital is set down at £150, 000, but as ouly a small portion is required at present for the purchase of the existing fleet and contingent expenses, further capital will not be called up unt 1 vessels suitable for the London and other trades may offer for sal* at • eaaonahle prices, until which time it is proposd to charter vessels as required to supplement the present, fleet. It is proposed to invite all Auckland busi-ness-men and all who may have any interest in the trade of our port to take Shares in this local Company, and to give the undertaking every possible support. TBe Company wouM thus be in a measure self-supporting, and strong enough to compete most successfully with any outs de or foreign company or foreign shipping. The Company could then not fail lo be a credit to our port, and a most lucrative investment to Share-holders. The promoters having every confidence in the success of the undertaking, now appeal to the public to ensure it by subscribing freely for Shar s. s ! LIST OF VESSELS. These figures serve to show that with a larger fleet, extended business, and more capital, substantial dividends may confidently be anticipated. :■. 1400 f ,'VJSBY variety of Label for Soda-water Vj Manufacturers, inletter-prew.
