Berger. The object of this Company is to provide tonnage suitable to the growiug trade of the Port of Auckland, bo that the imports and exports of our city may be a 9 much as possible carried in xoOAXIiY OWNED vessels, and the shipping business carried on by a' PIJBEtiT lOCAIi COSIP4NY. The 'ates of freights current in thia colony compare most favorably with those ruling in neighboring colonies, and are as a rule sufficiently remunerative to leave a good profit, trading bf nee eit er foreign or intercolonial. The acknowledged daily increasing commermercial im, ortatice of Auckland i» a source of gratificat on, and the shipping trade, under skilful management, and with sufficient capital, would meet with speedy and great development with many parts of the World •with which we are at present not in absolutely direct communication. The object of this Company is to provide vseels to trade in the directions already opened, end others which may from time to time offer inducements. ' There is ample room for a well-organised new line between Auckland and London, Liverpool and Glasgow, with New York, and with some of the larger centres of Continental European trades. Of/course, (he large and increasing export of balk and sawn timber will form an important, adjunct. A trade with Tasmania, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, &c, being already established, could easily be continued with regularity, whilst the Newcastle and Grdymouth coal trades should be alsa provided for. • There is a vast field in ; prospective fora good trade with America, Mauritius, China, Manilla, Calcutta, The Cape, Noumea, and nnmerous foreign poris, with some of which, eren at the present moment, a profitable direct trade is being carried on in a desultory manner, and which would find support from the new industries lately established here and in prospective establishments. The Company do not propose to limit themselves to running their own vessels, but will from time to time charter vessels when required, in the event of their own nob being immediately available. Messrs Stone Bros., who have for some time, carried onu good shipping business, and who have now fairly started a new London line, possess tho nucleus of a fleet suitable for commencing operations, and arrangements have been made to take over iheir vessels and the goodwill of their shipping business for the sum of thirty thousand six hundred and fifty pounds (£3G,650), they taking half the amount in I Company's shares. Their fleet, consisting of [ 8 vessels, with aggregate tonnage of 2642 tons, should be augmented as soon as possible, so that the business may be extended without delay, especially the, London and American branches. The Bervic b of Mr C.B. Stone, as managing director, and the ataff at present under his control, who are experienced in this lino of business, have been secured to. take offica under tho new Company. , 1 It"is further proposed that (he working ex» j penseg should be conducted on strictly economical principles, the expense of agencies and branches to be defrayed out of commissions on the actual freights earned by those branches. The proposed, capital is set down afc £150, 000, but as only a small portion is required at present for the purchase of the existing fleet ~ and contingent expenses, further capital will not be called up until vessels suitable for the London and other trades may offer for sale at reasonable prices^ until which time it iB proposed to charter vessels aB required to supplement the, present fleet. It is proposed to invite all Auckland busi-nees-men and all who may have any interest in the trade of our port to take Shares in this local Company, and to give the undertaking every possible support.
