The object of- .this Company is-to provide tonnage suitable, to the growing trade of the Port of Auckland, so that the imports and exports of our city, may be as much as possible carried in iocally owned TESSEIS, and the shipping business curried on by a PUBBXY LOCAL COMPANY.

The rates of freights current in Ihia colony ' compare most, favorably with thoße ruling in neighboring colonies, and are as a rule sufficiently remunerative to leave a good profit, trading hence..eit'er foreign or intercolonial. The acknowledged daily increasing cotnmermercial im ortance of Auckland ii a source of gratification, and the fhipping trade, under skilful management,' and with sufficient capital, would meet with speedy and great development with many parts of the World with which we are'at present not in absolutely direct communication.

■.The object of this Company is to provide VBsels to trade in the directions already opened, and others which tv.ay from time to time offer inducenienta. Ihere is ample room for a well«orgunised new line between Auckland and London, Liverpool and Glasgow, with Jsew York, and with fovao af"iJwiarpir~cpnlre~B of Continental Enropcan trades. Of 'course, the large and increasing export''of balk and sawn timber will form an important adjunct. A trade with Tasmania, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide,>&c, being already established could easily be continued with' regularity, . whilst tho Newcastle and Grreymouth coal trades should be ala •> provided fori There is a vast field in prospective for a good trade with. An erica, Mauritius, China, Manilla, Calcutta, The Capo, Noumea, and nnmerous foreign por>s, wi'h some of which, even at the , present moment, a profitable direct trade is being carried on in a desultory manner, and- rwhich would find support from the new industries lately established here and in prospective establishments. The Company do not. propose to limit themselves to running their own vessels, but will from time to time charter vessels when required, in the event of their own not being immediately available. . Messrs Stone Bros., who have for some time carried.on a-good shipping business, and who have now fairly, started a new London line, possess the nucleus of a'nVt. suitable for commencing operations, and arrangements have been made to take over heir vessels and tho goodwill of jEbeir shipping business for the sum of thirty thousabd six huhdredand fifty pounds .'(£3o,6s6),'they taking half the amount in Company's 'shares. Their fleet, consisting of 8 vessels/ with aggregate tonnage of 2642 tons, should be augmented as soon as possible, so that the 'business may be extended without delay, especially the London and American branches^ 11"'*1'" : '" '•' ■:'' ■ ■' '■ ' ' ;■■

The Boi^yife "a bf Mr G. B. Stone, as managing director, and the staff at present under hi> control, wlio: nre experienced .in this line of business.'lhave been secured to take offioe, under (he new Company. It ia further proposed that the working expenses should be conducted on strictly economical principles, the expense of agencieß and branches to be defrayed out of commissions on the actual freights earned by those branches. The proposed capital is eet down at £150, 000, but as only a imall portion is required at present for the purchase of the existing fleet and contingent expenses, further capital will not be called up unt 1 vessels suitable for the London and other trades may offer for sale at eaeonable prices, until which time it is pro* posed to charter vessels as required to supplement the present fl/ct. It is proposed to invite all Auckland busi-ness-men and all who may have any interest in the trade of our port to take Bhar.es in this local Company, and to give the undertaking every possible support. The Company would thus bo iv a measure self-supporting, and strong enough to compete most successfully with any outa de or foreign company or foreign shipping. The Company could then not fail to be a credit to our port, and a moat lucrative investment to Share-holders. The promoters having every confidence ia the success of the undertaking, now., appeal to the public to ensure it by subscribing freely for Shar b. •'., LIST OF VESSELS.
