DUNEDIN.

Yesterday

A most impudent theft was committed in Princes-street on Friday evening. A recent arrival, named John Graves, stole a dozen tweed hats from the shop door of Mr Masters, hatter, and shortly afterwards attempted to dispose of them to their owner. He was given in charge, and on Saturday was sentenced to two months'imprisonment.

The miners in the Walton Park coal mine have struck for an advance of 6d per ton. Upon the present state of output it is stated that the miners have no just cause for complaint, inasmuch as good workmen have been able to earn as much as 13s per day of eight hours, and ordU nary men 8s to 10s. The directors have decided not to comply with what seems to them to be an unreasonable demand.
