Yesterday. Criminal Sessions. The Supreme Court sittings continued to-day. John Cooper Jowell, for carnal knowledge of a girl under twelve, under revolting circumstances, to the Longburet case, was found guilty, and sentenced postponed. Richard Thomas, for manslaughter of a fellow carman named-Bols, was found guilty after along trial, but the jury strongly recommended him'to mercy on the ground of gross provocation, and his acting in self defence. Sentence was postponed till to-morrow morning. Mr Duncan explained this morning in Court that he was not aware that Hata Rio intended to commit perjury w.hen he put him in the withess box on the ejectment trial. • The Chief Justice did not express any opinion on the explanation. This Day.^ Jowett, for indecent assault, was this morning sentenced to seven years, with hard labour, and 25 lashes with the cat. Thomas, for manslaughter, was sentenced ta one month without hard labour. The case against Jenkins, for assault with intent, is now proceeding.
