Secbetaby, pbo tsk. : J. C. Berger. The object of this Company, is, to. provide tonnage suitable to the growing .trade of the Port of Auckland, so that the imports and exports of our city may be as much as possible carried in locaixt OWNED vessels, and the' shipping business carried on by a PDBBtr liOCAI. COMPANY. •'■'- '. The rates of freights current in this colony compare most favorably with those ruling in neighboring colonies, and arc as a rule sufficiently remunerative to leave a good profit, trading hence eit er foreign or intercolonial. Tbe acknowledged daily increasing commermercial im ortarce of Auckland is a source of gratification, and tbe shipping trade, under skilful management, and with sufficient capital, would meet with speedy and great development with many, pirts of the ; World with which we are at prer etit not in absolutely direct communication. The object of this Company is to provide vessels to trade in tbe directions already opened, and others which may from time' to time offer inducements. There is ample room for a well-organised new. line between. Auckland and London, Liverpool and Glasgow, with New York, and with Eomo of the larger centres of Continental Enropean trades. Of course, the large-and increasing export of balk and sawn timbor will form an important adjunct. A trude with Tasmania, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Ac, being Blreasy established cou'td easily be continued with regularity, whilst the Newcastle and Grey mouth coal trades should bo a\»i> provided for. There is a vaßt, field ia prospective for agood trade with A erica, Mauritius, China, Manilla, Calcutta, Tbe Cape, Noumea, and nnmbrous foreign ports, wi'h some of which, even at the present moment., a profitable 'direct trade is being carried on in a desultory manner, and which would fiud support from the new industries lately established here and in prospective establishments. ■'■ The Company do not propose to limit themselves to running their own vessels, but will from time to time charter vessels when required, in the event of l heir own not being immediately available. r . . ,r ' Messrs Stone Bros:, who havefor some time 'carried on a good shipping'business, and-who have now fairly started a rew London line, possess the nucleus of a'fleet suitable for commencing operations, and arrangements have been made to take over heir vessel! and. the. goodwill of their shipping business for the sum of thirty thousand six hundred and fifty pounds (£30,650), they'taking-half the amonnt in Company's shares. Their fleet, * consisting of 8 vessels, with aggregate tonnage of 2642 tons, should be augmented as soon as possible, so that tbe business may be extended without delay, especially the London and American branches. The servic s of Mr O. B. Stone, as managing director, and the «taff at present under his control, who are experienced in this line of business, have been secured to take offica under the new Company. It is further proposed thai iKe working ex* pen sea should be conducted on strictly econom* ' ical principles, tbe expense of agencies and branches to be defrayed out of commissions on the actual freights earned'by those branches. Tbe proposed capital is eet down at £150, 000, but as only a small portion-is required at present for the purchase of the existing fleet and contingent expenses, further capital will not be called up unt 1 vessels suitable for the London and other trades may offer for sale at easonable prices, until which time it is pro* posed to charter vessels as required to supplement the present llect. It is proposed'to intite all Auckland busi-ness-men and all who may have any interest in the trade of our port to take Bharesin this local Company,' and to give' the undertaking every possible support. The Company would thus be in a measure self-supporting, and strong enough to compete moac successfully with any outs de or foreign company or foreign shipping. The Company could then notlsil to be a credit to our port, and a moat lucrative investment to Shareholders. The promoters having every confidence in the success of the undertaking, now appeal to .the .public to ensure it by subscribing freely for Shares. LIST OF VESSELS.
