OUR MINES.
NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.
About two feet of the reef standing stripped in the seaward drive* at No. 5 level was broken down last night, and 301bsof good picked stone and specimens were bagged, leaving a little gold stiU showing. The picked stone and mens accumulated since the beginning of the month, in all about 4cwt, were put through the single stamper at the Alburnia mill to-day, and shaped for a satisfactory return. NEW MANUKAU.
A body of quartz was struck in the face of the crosscut at the No. 3 level of the Caledonian shaft yesterday, but not passed through. It has been cut into about a foot, and the quartz carries good minerals, and is of a favorable nature for gold, though none has yet been observed in it. This reef will probably prove to be the WaiotahiNo. 5, as the point at which that lode was expected to be met with is only 5 or 6 feet ahead of the present face. The contractors have still a few feet to drive, and as soon as they have finished a survey will be made, to determine the identity of tbe lode, and to find out the position of the winze sunk by Mr Smith, the manager of the Waiotahi. QUEEN OF ENGLAND.
About 12 feet of the No. 1-reef has been stripped in the drive at No. 3 level, but none has yet been taken down. The men have for the past day or two been placing a ladderway in the winze on the reef from No. 2 to No. 3 level. They could not continue driving, as there was no room to stow the mullock.
THAMES WINDING ASSOCIATION.
Steam was got up last evening for the purpose of trying the break. The test wa's very satisfactory, and the engineer was able to lower the single cage with a truck in it without the help of the steam. The other alterations are being proceeded with, and the manager thinks he will be able to get them finished in time to resume winding on Tuesday next." WAITEKAUEI.
Mr P. Kelly came down to-day with four parcels of gold from this district. One of them was from the Waitekaori No. 3 ground, and weighed llozs lOdwts.
