The stone is rich, and is exceedingly like what was obtained from the same reef at No. £ level. It was bagged from near the top of the drive, and very little qnarta,not more than a foot in depth on the footwall of the reef, was taken down. The hangingwall portion has not been broken at all. A capital show of gold is visible where the stone was obtained, for a length of about two feet, and good gold is also showing in the hangingwall portion. A flinty strikes into the reef just below where the stone was bagged from.;. Toe. following telegram was posted at 4 o'clock;' this afternoon:—" 501bs specimens from drive on No. 1 reef, No. 1 section weit.^r. G. S. Cla.be." The stone was bagged in breaking the Mariner's reef at No. 4 level where the fine show of gold was left., on o . Tuesday. The stone was very rich, admb 1^ of the pieces being nearly solid gold. DEEP LEVEL CROSS.:

In consequence of the mishap on Tuesday several alterations are being made to the engine, &o. The break has been im prored by making the leverage greater*j ' a smaller pinion is to be placed on the M crank shaft, and the spider will 'only revolve once to three turns of the pinion. - - Boilers are also to be placed midway between the poppet heads and the spiders;to: -s catch the fall of the rope. The pinion "* was to have come down from Auckland to-day, but a telegram-Was received stating that it had, by mistake, been shipped to Coromandel. This will euaia a little more delay. .-. \ "VS-
