New Zealand securities remain at last quotations, viz., 5 per cent 10 40 loan, 108|; 5 per cent. 1889 loan, 106; 4£ per cent., 1879-1904 loan, 102^. Inscribed stock, 102|. Colonial breadstuff's continue quiet at 50s for Adelaide wheat, ex store; 44s to 48s for New Zealand wheat, ex store; and 34s for Adelaide flour, ex store. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 2,070,000 quarters. Australian tallow is firm at 44s for best beef, and 46s for best mutton. Best Sydney sun dried copra remains at £20 15s. San Fbancisco, April 20. The Pacific Mail steamship Australia armed from Auckland yesterday. London, April 21.; In the House of Lords last evening, Lord Carnarvon, formerly Secretary of State for the Colonies, renewed the question of the annexation of New Guinea, and in the course of his speech, vindicated the motives which prompted the recent action of the Queensland Government. Lord Derby, in reply, stated that the matter had been brought under the notice of the Colonial Office months ago by Mr Thomas Archer, Queensland Agent* General, who advanced strong reasons for the annexation of the Island, and asked whether the Imperial Government would sanction it, stating that Queensland was prepared to provide for the necessary expenditure of governing the Island. Sir Arthur Kennedy had been requested to report upon the question, and his despatches were still awaited. Lord Derby stated that the news that the agent of the Queensland Government had taken possession of the Island had, therefore, caused great surprise, no pit dge having been given that such action would be sanctioned. : The jury, in the case of Timothy Kelly, the third of the Phoenix Park murderers, have been unable to agree upon a verdict, and have/retired until Monday; s -; Becent telegrams are to hand from St. Petersburg stating that the coronationjof the Czar will take place on May 17th, the date previously fixed, and not June 10th as announced on the 10th inst. The Times, however, in its issue of this morning, considers the report a hoax.
[Specials to the .Pbess Association.] ;■ London April 19. The Victorian and New South Wales courts at the Amsterdam Exhibition are almost ready for the receipt of exhibits. The other courts are behind hand, and will be some time before they are completed. It is announced that the Prince of Wales will not attend the opening ceremony. ; Two vast squatting companies, for the purchase of land in the Northern Territory of Australia will shortly be launched. Sir Julius Vogel is the promoter of one. i ?A general rebellion has broken out at Ashantee. ■ Sir Stafford Northcqte has unveiled the statue erected to the memory of the late Lord Beaconsfield. A large number of the members of the Liberal party were present. Gallagher, one of the men in custody for being in unlawful possession of explosives, has hinted that it is intended to destroy Westminster Bridge... and Scotland Yard with dynamite..
